Efficiency Smart Partnership to Benefit Village of Oak Harbor’s Electric Customers
December 14, 2021
Efficiency Smart is excited to announce the launch of energy efficiency services for Oak Harbor Public Power customers. Efficiency Smart offers several services and financial incentives designed to help residents and businesses reduce their electric use and save money.
“Efficiency Smart helps residents reduce their electric costs and businesses stay competitive,” said Randy Genzman, Oak Harbor Village Administrator. “Offering these services to our customers expands the level of support far beyond what we could do on our own.”
Efficiency Smart’s residential services are designed around lowering electric use and making homes more comfortable. Residential initiatives include guidance on reducing electric use, discounts on energy-efficient lighting and rebates for energy-saving appliances.
By taking advantage of these options, residents can reduce their energy consumption and save on their electric bills. For example, a resident who:
- Installs 10 LEDs can save approximately $40 annually
- Recycles a second refrigerator could save up to $150 in annual electric costs
- Manages their electric usage with a smart thermostat could save approximately $70 in annual electric costs
Business customers also have many ways to save energy and money. Efficiency Smart offers hands-on support, including technical assistance and financial incentives to encourage the installation of energy-efficient technologies. Example projects include lighting, compressed air and HVAC.
“We are excited for the opportunity to work with the Village of Oak Harbor,” said Sean Clement, Director of Operations for Efficiency Smart. “The village has shown a commitment to energy efficiency, which is a cost-effective way for communities to reduce their customers’ electric bills, reduce power supply costs, and contribute to local economic development. We look forward to working together with the village to ensure a successful partnership.”
Oak Harbor is expected to save approximately 259 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy over the course of its three-year contract period. The 259 MWh savings is roughly equivalent to the annual electric usage of more than 33 homes. In addition, Oak Harbor is expected to reduce its summer peak by 40 kilowatts (kW). Reducing both electric usage and summer peak lowers costs for the Village of Oak Harbor and its electric customers.
