Whether it’s the ABCs or Quantum Physics, fostering the growth of another person is an occupation of the highest calling. If teachers have one thing in common, it’s that each of them has made a career of giving. The Efficiency Smart Extra Credit Contest is your opportunity to give back.
When you nominate your favorite teacher, they’ll be automatically entered to win a free energy efficiency check-up and up to $750 towards energy-saving improvements.

2. Submit your completed entry.
Nominate a K-12 teacher who you feel deserves extra credit. Just make sure you do so by 11:59 PM EST, May 14, 2023. Efficiency Smart will randomly select five contest finalists from the pool of nominees.

We'll announce our five finalists in late May, at which time we’ll also kick off the final voting.
4. Cast your vote for your favorite finalist.
Cast your vote for your favorite finalist. The teacher will be declared the grand prize winner after voting ends at 11:59 PM EST on June 7, 2023. The grand prize winner will receive $750 in energy efficiency improvements from Efficiency Smart. The runner-up will receive $500, while places 3rd, 4th, and 5th will each receive $250. All finalists will receive a free energy efficiency check-up and personalized energy-saving recommendations from Efficiency Smart.
Local school districts can win, too!
Efficiency Smart will also award two “district” prizes, each one providing up to $1,500 towards energy efficiency improvements. The first of these two prizes will go to the school district that employs the grand prize-winning teacher. The second of these two prizes will be awarded to the school district employing a nominated teacher selected at random by Efficiency Smart.

Q. How many teachers will win the grand prize?
One teacher will win $750 towards the cost of qualifying energy efficiency improvements. Efficiency Smart will provide all finalists a free energy efficiency check-up and a consolation prize.
Q. What types of teachers are eligible?
Only K-12 teachers that are employed by a school district that is a customer of an electric utility that participates in Efficiency Smart. Visit www.efficiencysmart.org for a list of participating utilities.
Q. Can teachers self-nominate?
Yes! If you are named a finalist, we also recommend that you share our post and encourage others to vote to increase your odds of winning.
Q. What type of projects are eligible for the winning teacher?
The $750 can be used towards any energy efficiency improvements recommended by our engineering consultants. Sample improvements include:

- HVAC equipment
- Smart thermostats
- Appliances
- Weatherization
